In April 1990, while living on a small military base in Lwakuni, Japan I was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma (bone cancer). A CT scan at a Japanese hospital revealed I had a tumor on my second rib which caused intense pain. The treatment plan included relocating to San Diego where I endured chemo therapy and underwent surgery to remove the tumor. The Ronald McDonald House in San Diego allowed my family to stay free of charge while I was receiving treatment, which relieved the stress of finding a place to live and allowed my family to focus on the health issues. I will forever be grateful for this community resource. At the completion of the treatment, I was cancer free and with God’s Grace have been in remission ever since.
I became a member of the Rock Church in May 2009 and joined the Rock Cancer C.A.R.E. Ministry in October. I believe that through my own cancer experience, the Lord has prepared me for service in this ministry. I am eager to combine my experience with cancer, my educational background and my commitment to our church in an effort to support the spiritual and physical needs of families with shared cancer experiences. |
